Let’s Clean House at City Council

We Downtown Residents have had enough. With your help, we need to clean out a dysfunctional City Council and replace it with new Council members who are neither socialist ideologues nor developer lap dogs. Instead we need pragmatic problem solvers who are concerned about the welfare of the entire City, not just their own Districts.

We’re at a political crossroads where residents feel frustrated that their voices aren’t being heard. We want Council members who are solid, studious, and informed thinkers, who will be prudent in spending taxpayer [our] dollars, and who will actually follow-through on their election-year promises.

We’re sick and tired of a City Council that focuses too much energy on meaningless "non-binding resolutions” on national, or even world, issues over which they have no control. At the same time, they ignore [or pretend to address by appointing another Committee with a politically correct sounding name but no authority] the serious problems at home here in Seattle…and specifically for us, the issues that will shape the future of Downtown livability for generations, all of which we have discussed in numerous posts on this blog.

Fortunately, polls are showing a public impatient with, and disapproving of, the current City Council. Four of its incumbents are not seeking reelection, and over fifty candidates have filed for the seven District races being contested this year.

The Primary Election is coming up on August 6, with the two top candidates in each District moving on to the General Election in November. For our District 7 [Downtown, Magnolia, and Queen Anne], we are working diligently to sort through the information we are gleaning on each candidate from personal interviews, answers to written questionnaires, and their performance at candidate forums.

We plan to complete that process in coming weeks; and share with you our findings and endorsement(s) on this blog. Please stay tuned.
